MODE OF HEAT TRANSFER

Heat is transferred through three main modes:

1. Conduction:

Occurs in solids.

Heat transfers from molecule to molecule through direct contact.

Example: Heating one end of a metal rod.

2. Convection:

Occurs in liquids and gases.

Heat is transferred by the movement of fluid particles.

Example: Boiling water (hot water rises, cool water sinks).

3. Radiation:

Transfer of heat through electromagnetic waves.

Does not require a medium (can occur in a vacuum).

Example: Heat from the Sun reaching Earth.
